Sandra Day O’Connor, Carl Hiaasen, Neal Hotelling, Greg Mortenson and P.J. O’Rourke were among the many famous authors present at the third annual Carmel Authors and Ideas Festival, held at the Sunset Center. 1,400 local middle and high school students were invited to attend the festival for a Student Literacy Day.
The First Annual Carmel Art & Film Festival opened with a reception at the art-filled courtyard of the Sunset Center, combined with a photo exhibition and followed by a movie screening, concert and VIP afterparty. The next three days of the festival were filled with films, parties and Q&As with screenwriters.
The 21st Annual Taste of Carmel was held in the enchanting Carmel Mission courtyard. Guests enjoyed dressing up in a 1950s “Sock Hop” theme. This major fundraiser for the Carmel Chamber of Commerce featured 26 restaurants and 20 wineries from the Carmel area.
The Living Breath Foundation held its annual dinner and auction, “In a Garden of Sixty-Five Roses,” at Tehama Golf and Country Club.Wines donated by Ventana Vineyards and hors d'oeuvres were served in the courtyard followed by dinner.The Living Breath Foundation is a nonprofit organization helping those living with Cystic Fibrosis.
The 8th Annual White Party was held at the home of Cameron and Anthony Davi on September 11th. The Air Force Color Guard did a flag ceremony, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Monterey County benefitted from the event, which was sponsored by local restaurants, Pessagno Winery, Brown-Forman and Tiffany & Co., among others.
2009 Best of the Fest patrons enjoyed delicious cuisine by Bernardus along with the sounds of the Bach Festival’s most popular concert, featuring Festival highlights and narrated by Maestro Bruno Weil. The event was held at the Carmel Woman’s Club and sponsored by Stahl Motor Company and Carmel Insurance Agency.
The seventh annual popular CarWeek event known as the “Q” featured 50 Years of Daytona International Speedway, the 30th Anniversary of BMW's Motorsport Division, a Tribute to Hans Stuck and the cars of Bill Devin. Charities such as the California Highway Patrol 11-99 Foundation, CASA, Carmel schools, Rancho Cielo and the American Red Cross benefitted.
Car enthusiasts celebrated at the Concorso Italiano’s new venue, Laguna Seca Golf Ranch, with a variety of notable Italian cars and icons such as Lamborghini test driver Valentino Balboni. At the event, auto aficionado Jay Leno collected the prestigious “La Bella Macchina” award for his dedication to the automotive hobby.
