The Audi Best Buddies Challenge: Hearst Castle, a 100-mile cycling fundraiser from Carmel to San Simeon, kicked off with a Golf Challenge and an evening reception hosted by Maria Shriver at the legendary Tehama Golf Club. Celebrity attendees included actor and Tehama owner Clint Eastwood, "Glee's" Lauren Potter and actor Verne Troyer. The weekend-long event raised a record $4.5 million in total donations for Best Buddies International.
The Carmel Authors and Ideas Festival celebrated its fifth anniversary with an opening night reception honoring the who's who of the literary world. More than 3,000 Monterey County students participated in the Festival's Student Literary Program. Speakers included award-winning authors of New York Times best-sellers, Pulitzer and Nobel Prize winners, as well as winners of virtually every prestigious literary award.
The Living Breath Foundation raises money each year to support individuals and families with the added expenses associated with having Cystic Fibrosis. The fourth annual dinner and auction at Tehama Golf Club raised about $70,000. Guests enjoyed a silent auction followed by dinner and an exciting live auction along with guest speakers associated with the Living Breath Foundation.
MY Museum hosted "A Spectacular Dinner" at a private home high in the hills of Tehama. The event was a multi-course, sit-down dinner prepared by such chefs as Tony Baker of Montrio Bistro, Brian Overhauser of Hahn Estates and Brandon Miller of Mundaka, to name a few. All proceeds from the dinner go to support the museum's Forever Curious fund.
More than 200 supporters gathered to celebrate the spirit of giving in our community at the Foundation's annual event held at Corral de Tierra. Michael and Mary Orradre received the Distinguished Trustee Award for their generous support of local nonprofits. Guests enjoyed wines compliments of Scheid Vineyards, hors d'oeuvres and music from members of the Monterey Jazz Festival's County High School All Star Band.
Special Kids Crusade held its fifth annual dinner auction at the Monterey Marriott to benefit children with disabilities and their families residing in Monterey County. "Reach for the Stars" appreciation award recipients were Gail Yulich, Stella Lauerman, Tucci Learning Solutions, and Nate Danielson. Over $30,000 was raised to support youth skill development programs and parent empowerment education.
Tiffany & Co. welcomed locals and guests for a sparkling open house to mark Car Week on the Monterey Peninsula, which included a VIP wine tasting experience with Nickel and Nickel Winery's Beth Nickel, who was the guest of honor that evening. Guests were dazzled by a spectacular collection of Schlumberger jewelry, including the famously collected Jackie O bracelets.
The 2011 Taste of Carmel was held in the courtyard of the beautiful Carmel Mission. Sponsored by Santa Barbara Bank & Trust and put on as a fundraiser for the Carmel Chamber of Commerce, the "Footloose and Fancy Fare" event had an 80's theme and included 25 restaurants and 25 wineries. This event, started in 1988, was one of the first events in the area to showcase many of the spectacular restaurants and wineries of Carmel all in one place.
Kinship Center's Fourth Annual Harvest Moon Festival was held at its headquarters in Salinas. Guests savored the best that the area's vintners, restaurateurs and merchants could offer, enjoyed live music, browsed auction highlights, and enjoyed Central Coast's favorite Master of Ceremonies Dan Green. All proceeds directly support Kinship Center's services for abused and abandoned children.
