Where's Marty? Premiere

What began as a novel fundraising idea for the Monterey County Film Commission resulted in the world premiere of the locally-made movie, "Where's Marty?" at Monterey's Golden State Theatre. The film's celebrities and VIPs arrived in limos, walked the red carpet, and a full house watched the local credits roll. It was a December night of "lights, camera, and economic action" with proceeds benefiting the nonprofit film commission and its new student filmmaker scholarship program.

Make A Wish Foundation Gala

The Monterey Bay Gala held at Tehama Golf and Country Club raised $450,000 in support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Both silent and live auctions offered one-of-a-kind travel and gift items including a day with George Lopez in which the winner will have a walk-on part on his show; a round of golf with Lopez in Los Angeles including lunch, hotel and airfare; and a private screening of "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" with memorabilia signed by Clint Eastwood.

Carmel Chamber Green Ribbon Awards

More than 200 members and guests joined together for the 9th Annual Green Ribbon of Excellence Awards Dinner for the Carmel Chamber of Commerce. The event, held at Stonepine Estates, honored several businesses that excel in providing quality service/products in their respective industry type, and those who demonstrate a high level of business ethics.

Meals on Wheels Culinary Classique d'Elegance

Meals on Wheels celebrated its 10th year of success with the Culinary Classique d'Elegance. Event Chair and founder Bert Cutino was among the many chefs who prepared their unique cuisine, served on elaborate table settings created by a team of volunteer designers. The event was held at the Inn at Spanish Bay and featured live and silent auctions that raised over $130,000.

Big Brothers & Sisters

The Big Brothers Big Sisters event held at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca raised over $100,000 towards funding the organization that provides caring adult mentors with at-risk youth. The event auctioned off a vacation to a castle in France and guests enjoyed laps around the racetrack. The event's success was due in part to the support of Fresh Express and the many staff, board members, volunteers, and guests in attendance.

Comm. Partnership for Youth Bachelor Auction

The Community Partnership for Youth (CPY) recently held their fourth annual bachelor auction at the Monterey Marriott. The event included a silent auction, a fabulous dinner prepared by local chefs, and the chance to bid on a dream date with a Monterey Peninsula bachelor. The funds generated from this event help support CPY's mentor/tutor programs.

Monterey County Sheriff's Advisory Council

The Monterey County Sheriff's Advisory Council (SAC), hosted by Sheriff Mike Kanalakis, SAC President Charles Chrietzberg, and dinner Chairman David Bernahl, held its annual gala at Bernardus Lodge. Guests enjoyed epicurean delights by chef Cal Stamenov that helped raise nearly $100,000 for the program. The funds enable the SAC to acquire much needed equipment and provide training for the Monterey County Sheriff's Office.

Callaway Golf Pebble Beach Invitational

The Callaway Golf Pebble Beach Invitational marked its 35th Anniversary with a golf tournament that matched players from the LPGA, PGA Champions, Nationwide, and PGA of America in a head-to-head competition. The event was held at Spyglass Hill, Del Monte, and Pebble Beach golf courses as a benefit for the Kiwanis Club of Monterey.

Saroyan Masterbuilder

Surrounded by close friends and business associates, Al Saroyan and his son Albert hosted a grand opening of their newest gem in December. The renowned builder unveiled the historic renovation and restoration of the Thomas Elston House in Carmel. The home features hardwood floors, extensive craftsman detailing in the woodwork, an Arizona flagstone fireplace, and two home theaters.

Around Town

During the busy holiday season, a myriad of festive bashes were going on all over town. The United Way of Monterey County hosted a party with Tiffany & Co. to honor Basil Mills for his many years of work leading the Alexis de Tocqueville Society. The Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History hosted a reception to kick off their permanent condor exhibit. Tiffany & Co. held a luncheon at Roger Mills' estate featuring their jewelry Design Director John Loring. Loring has worked with the likes of Jacqueline Onassis and Sarah Jessica Parker. Casa of Monterey County held their Annual Event at Paraiso Vineyards. The benefit raised $27,500 with proceeds benefiting the agency that advocates for abused and neglected children.
