The Carmel Chamber of Commerce Awards of Excellence Dinner was held at the Monterey Peninsula Country Club. Homescapes, Carmel was named as Business of the Year and other winners included La Playa Hotel, Carmel Art Association, Sunset Cultural Center, Bruno’s Market, Kocek Jeweler, Crossroads Shopping Village, Monterey Bay Aquarium and Carmel Magazine.
The 30th Anniversary Celebration of The Big Sur Land Trust was held at Carmel's Sunset Theater with more than 600 guests celebrating 30 years of conserving the significant lands and waters of the Central Coast.The event featured a performance by folksinger Erica Wheeler and the reception, sponsored by Chalone Vineyard, presented desserts by chef Wendy Brodie.
Turning Tehama Golf Club into the Taj Mahal was one of many surprises of the 8th annual Make-A-Wish gala. Live camels welcomed 320 guests there to raise funds to support local children with life-threatening illnesses. Josh Groban provided entertainment and sponsors included Lexus of the Monterey Peninsula, Olsen Family Vineyards, Warner Bros. and Wells Fargo.
The 10th annual fundraiser held in memory of Sabu Shake Sr. benefitted The Salvation Army of the Monterey Peninsula. “Sabu’s Safari Under the Big Tent” was held atWild Things in Salinas, and featured live animals and delicious food from Shake family restaurants and other chefs. $156,000 was raised to assist families in need.
"An Evening of Comedy" at the Sunset Center featured three celebrity comedians, ANT, Dat Phan and Kristin Key, from the NBC TV show "Last Comic Standing.” The event was hosted by Junior League of Monterey County and raised funds to support women and children in need throughout Monterey County.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Monterey County hosted an exciting evening at Tehama and raised $140,000 to support their programs.This year featured an Arabian Nights theme with delectable food, spirits, snake holders, fire dancers and fortune tellers.The live auction, hosted by KION news anchor, Hunter Finnell, featured limited edition wallets and handbags donated by local celebrity designer, Stella Page.
The 17th Annual Philanthropy Day Luncheon and awards presentation took place at the Inn at Spanish Bay in Pebble Beach.The event, sponsored by First National Bank of Central California and Hayashi and Wayland, honored locals for their contributions to nonprofit agencies throughout Monterey and Santa Cruz counties.
